Armchair panel discussion with the Honourable Chyrstia Freeland and Silvana Koch-Mehrin

YPFP Brussels is delighted to present this VIP event with the Honourable Chyrstia Freeland, Canadian Minister of International Trade, and Silvana Koch-Mehrin, founder of Women in Parliaments Global Forum WIP.

Ms Freeland's career has led her from freelance journalism in Ukraine for the Washington Post and Economist to heading the Financial Times' Moscow bureau and the deputy editorship of The Globe and Mail, and now to politics: initially elected as an MP for the Liberal Party in 2013, a mere two years later she was appointed Minister of International Trade by new Canadian PM Justin Trudeau. She is also author of the New York Times bestseller Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else.

At a time when global trade issues are never far from the headlines, this will be a unique opportunity to hear from someone who is at the heart of high-level trade negotiations and has also been an outspoken commentator on Ukrainian and eastern European issues. She will also discuss her career from journalist to Minister, as well as the role of youth in the global economy.

She will be joined by Silvana Koch-Mehrin, founder of Women in Parliaments Global Forum WIP. A Member of the European Parliament 2004-2014, from 2009 to 2011 Ms Koch-Mehrin was Vice-President (Deputy Speaker) of the European Parliament, and from 2004 to 2009 she was First Vice-President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. She served in the committees on budget, on trade and on gender equality. Before her time in politics she founded and ran a public affairs consultancy in Brussels, which later merged with a larger US firm. She was also active as a talk-show host with her own show on two regional German TV channels, and is a contributor to national and international media.
