With the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the spread of violent extremism across parts of the Middle East and North Africa, for the first time in its 65 year history, NATO is having to look both “East” and “South” as it works to ensure the safety of its member states.
As a leading member of NATO, the United States plays an important role in shaping the future strategies and priorities of the Alliance. How, in this regard, is the US helping to transform NATO so that it can effectively face new challenges in a rapidly changing global security environment?
Join us for an evening and live-tweeting event with Ambassador Douglas E. Lute, United States Permanent Representative to NATO, as we tackle this and other issues in what will be an especially enlightening edition of YPFP’s Ambassador Series.
Ambassador Lute was sworn in as Ambassador of the United States to NATO in August 2013. Prior to this, he worked in the White House from 2007-2013 under the Bush and Obama administrations, first as Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Iraq and Afghanistan, and more recently as the Deputy Assistant to the President focusing on Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. After 35 years on active duty in the US Army, Ambassador Lute retired as a lieutenant general in 2010.
A reception will be held following the event, generously provided by the US Mission to NATO.
This event is only for YPFP members and picture ID will be required for entry to the event.
