On 25 March 1957, six countries joined together in Rome to sign a treaty establishing the European Economic Community -- a momentous occasion that set Europe down a path of greater integration and eventually led to the European Union as we know it today.
As we mark the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome, Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) Brussels invites you to join us for an evening discussion with Ambassador Maurizio Massari, Italian Permanent Representative to the European Union. Ambassador Massari who will offer his perspectives on Italy’s foreign policy and the future of the EU sixty years after the signature of the Treaty of Rome.
The event will be followed by a light cocktail reception generously offered by the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union.
Ambassador Massari was appointed Permanent Representative of Italy to the European Union in May 2016. During his diplomatic career that has spanned more than 30 years, he has served in a numerous posts in Washington, London and Rome, as well as in Moscow during perestroika. In 2012, he was the Special Envoy of the Italian Foreign Minister for the Mediterranean and the Middle East and later on Ambassador of Italy to Egypt. From 2003 to 2006, he served as OSCE Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro. Ambassador Massari has a degree in Political Science from the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, and advanced specialisations in International Affairs from Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University.
