Job Description
The Cipher Brief offers internships to undergraduate students, graduate students and recent graduates.  Internships with TCB are a great way to gain practical experience in the media and foreign policy fields. Interns will work closely with TCB executive staff to develop our operations and product. 

Internships with TCB are unpaid; however, exceptional candidates may be considered for full-time positions as we grow.  Working with TCB will provide wide exposure to the intelligence, defense and foreign policy communities.

The position will be at The Cipher’s Georgetown headquarters.  Schedules can be adjusted to accommodate class times for students.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Researching and writing articles and reports;

  • Participating in and transcribing TCB interviews;

  • Assisting with editing and proofing of content;

  • Supporting the Directors of Editorial and Analysis by managing TCB editorial calendar;

  • Building Expert database;

  • Support Perspectives and Culture content production with ideas, research and outreach;

  • Providing support to The Cipher Brief’s events; and,

  • Attending conferences and roundtables on behalf of The Cipher Brief.

Job Requirements:

  • Current junior, senior or recent university graduate, with a degree in Journalism;

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape;

  • Interest in and understanding of the international security space;

  • Quick study on TCB voice and mission;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;

  • Solid organizational abilities;

  • Individual initiative and flexibility; and,

  • Strong research and computer skills.
