Job Description

The Internship Program at the EastWest Institute provides talented students and recent graduates (only if you are planning to continue your education within the next six months) with a four- month (or longer) training opportunity designed to encourage professional and personal development.  We encourage out-of-the-box thinking and value fresh perspectives.  

As part of the on the job training process interns will work closely with their supervisor on research projects, administrative and logistical support, and other necessary tasks specific to their respective department.  Additionally, interns will add to their skill sets by attending informal and formal learning sessions and an optional research project.

Job Responsibilities

The EastWest Institute seeks an energetic intern to provide logistical, administrative, and research support and will also support the Events Department in planning several high-level events. This internship is best suited for those interested in gaining experience in events within a nonprofit institution. The intern will acquire essential skills that are transferrable to any future position. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating meeting agendas and reference material
  • Researching people, places, and organizations and writing briefs on each subject
  • Compiling meeting materials and creating briefing books
  • Corresponding with event attendees and speakers
  • Assisting with logistics associated with events
  • Researching event venues and locations
  • General administrative duties
  • Other tasks as assigned. 

Job Requirements

  • Student enrolled in a relevant graduate or undergraduate degree program or a recent graduate (if you are planning to continue your education within the next six months); 
  • Background and interest in international relations or security studies desirable;
  • Good writing ability;
  • Events management experience desirable;
  • Fluency in English a must.  Proficiency in other languages is an advantage, especially Russian, Chinese, Arabic and Farsi;
  • The ability and drive to perform in a fast-paced international environment;
  • PC literate (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Internet-research savvy;
  • Team player, highly motivated, flexible, and able to efficiently handle multiple tasks.
