Job Description

SelectUSA has vacancies for unpaid internships in Washington for the spring 2017 semester. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable experience and insight into business investment in the United States, international capital flows, and U.S. investment policy.

Job Responsibilities

Investment Promotion Internship

Duties will range across all aspects of the operation, including handling incoming investor inquiries; significant assignments in research, writing, and economic analysis; generation of reports, PowerPoint presentations, talking points, and briefing materials for U.S. government officials; and other related administrative and research activities. Strong candidates have academic or professional experience in international investment and trade, international relations, and/or economics.

Office of the Executive Director Internship

Duties will range across all aspects of front office operations from policy coordination, strategic planning, program execution, to drafting and administering correspondence, research, assisting with speech and presentation development, and other day-to-day front office administrative duties. Strong candidates have excellent organization and multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, as well as interest in U.S. foreign direct investment policy coordination, and strategic planning. 

Communications & Outreach Internship

Duties will range across all aspects of the operation, including handling incoming investor inquiries; significant assignments in research, writing, and economic analysis; generation of reports, PowerPoint presentations, talking points, and briefing materials for U.S. government officials; and other related administrative and research activities. Communications interns will also assist with Twitter tactics, write tweets, draft email marketing messages, research potential partner organizations, and other related duties. Strong candidates have academic or professional experience in public relations, marketing, and/or journalism.

Events Internship

Duties will be centered on event logistics, strategic planning, program execution, risk management, development of event content and providing administrative support to the events team in the production of large-scale events. The Events intern will gain valuable skills in a fast-paced environment, as an integral member of a hard-working team. Strong candidates have experience or interest in event management, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks.

Operations Management Internship

Duties will range across all aspects of business program operations from budget/finance/accounting, budget formulation and execution, contracts and procurement, strategic planning, program execution, risk management, and workforce planning/management, to measuring program efficiency and effectiveness through evaluation and analysis, performance measures and metrics, client satisfaction and business process improvements. Strong candidates have academic or professional experience in finance/financial management, human resources, and accounting.

Job Requirements

  • Academic and/or professional experience in international relations, international or general business, management, public policy, economics, international investment and/or trade issues 
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • An ability to work independently, and are self-motivated
  • Excellent analytical and research skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Professional computer skills (including MS Office applications like Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
