The Education and Society Strategic Business Unit (SBU) is one of 3 SBUs in the British Council the others are Arts and English and Examinations. We work in the following eight areas to engage people across the world with the UK and develop new and deeper relationships that deliver impact overseas and in the UK:

The Business Development team provides professional leadership of the British Council’s global mixed economy business strategy for Education and Society (E&S), aligned to wider corporate and E&S objectives and priorities, to ensure the portfolio makes a significant and high quality contribution to the organisation’s cultural relations and commercial activity.

We have an excellent opportunity in the team of Business Development Services to support the delivery of the British Council’s global mixed economy business strategy for Education and Society, through the provision of high quality business development, proposal development and coordination services including assigned regional pipeline management and research and analysis of client and partner trends and opportunities.
We require the successful candidate to have the following experience:
- Experience in competitive tendering, proposal and business development for commercial contracts, including a proven track record in leading all stages of tendering processes to secure new business with key international clients (DFID, EC, ADB, WB);
- In depth knowledge of the Project Management life cycle, with specific knowledge of client funded projects;
- Experience in developing business strategy and positioning for new work, including risk and financial assessment and the identification of partners/suppliers, relationship building with clients and donors;
- Experience in building capacity, developing and delivering learning opportunities in business development, proposal management;
- Operating successfully in a complex, multi-cultural context.
