Job Description

The Manager, Human Freedom, is primarily responsible for program development and implementation of the Liberty and Leadership Forum.  The Manager may support other program and policy initiatives that advance the department’s mission to develop future leaders in emerging democracies and advocate for U.S. leadership and engagement to increase freedom in the world.

 

Job Responsibilities

The Manager, Human Freedom, is primarily responsible for program development and implementation of the Liberty and Leadership Forum.  The Manager may support other program and policy initiatives that advance the department’s mission to develop future leaders in emerging democracies and advocate for U.S. leadership and engagement to increase freedom in the world. Specific responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Working collaboratively with the Director, Human Freedom, and other team members to support a positive and productive work environment

  • Supporting implementation of the Human Freedom strategy and achievement of program goals and outcomes, both for the Liberty and Leadership Forum and other program and policy initiatives that may arise

  • Supporting overall program design for the Liberty and Leadership Forum, including curriculum development & adaptation and the creation of new alumni programming

  • Managing planning and logistics for trainings conducted at the Bush Center in Dallas and in countries of focus, currently Burma (Myanmar)

  • Coordinating the work of instructors, advisors, and other consultants

  • Developing and maintaining a robust network of relevant thought leaders, stakeholders, and action partners

  • Managing the Liberty and Leadership Forum annual budget

  • Providing analysis of current events and policies that are relevant to the Liberty and Leadership Forum and other Human Freedom initiatives; facilitating outreach to policy makers and other key influencers as needed

  • Contributing content for web, social media, print, and other distribution channels

  • Collaborating with Events-Operations, External Affairs, and other departments on meetings, events, communications plans

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Human Freedom

  

Job Requirements

The qualified applicant will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field; graduate degree preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit work, consulting, or similar; democracy promotion, human rights, foreign policy, or related fields preferred

  • Successful track record in project management, including strong research skills, program plan development, goal setting and tracking, effective resource management, effective communication, and managing for results

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; experience creating reports and presentations, delivering presentations, and sharing information and ideas with others

  • Creative problem-solving abilities that generate new ideas and can adjust plans to meet changing needs

  • Experience supporting complex projects with multiple, diverse, and international stakeholders

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and guiding principles of the George W. Bush Presidential Center
