Organizational Description

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a congressionally funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, and is seeking an Assistant Program Officer for Fellowship Programs.  The position is based in Washington, D.C.

Location: Washington, DC

Job DescriptionResponsible for day-to-day administration of Reagan-Fascell and Visiting Fellow programs at the International Forum for Democratic Studies.  Reports to the Senior Director, Fellowship Programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare official correspondence and documentation, including preparation of all fellowship documents
  • Organize orientations and program evaluations, including incoming and “exit” procedures
  • Coordinate the administration and financial procedures:
    •  International and domestic travel arrangements and reimbursements
    •  Stipend and Taxes
    •  Health Insurance
    •  Housing
    •  Visa Support
    •  Office set-up and office and technology services support
    •  Promote program’s annual global competition
    •  Manage program webpages and social media development
    •  Supervise and mentor seasonal interns
    •  Support fellows’ presentations, program receptions and other events as required
    •  Organize database and oversee file maintenance, including implementation of record retention policy
    •  Assist with alumni relations.

Job Requirements

Master’s degree in relevant field

  •  Over two years of program administration experience — MS Office skills required
  •  Experience with international exchange programs and international visitors
  •  Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  •  Experience with non-native English speakers
  •  High degree of organization and initiative
  •  Experience in financial management and reporting
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills
  •  Authorized to work in the US.
